Understanding Root Canal Treatment

What is a Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure aimed at saving an infected or damaged tooth. It involves removing the infected pulp from the tooth’s root canal, cleaning and disinfecting the area, and sealing it to prevent further infection.

What is a Root Canal Treatment?

Recognizing the signs that indicate the need for root canal treatment is crucial. Look out for the following symptoms:

The Process of Root Canal Treatment

During the root canal treatment process, our experienced dentist will perform the following steps:

  1. Examination and Diagnosis: The dentist will carefully examine your tooth, take X-rays if necessary, and determine the extent of the infection.
  2. Local Anesthesia: Numbing the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic ensures a painless procedure.
  3. Access and Pulp Removal: A small access hole is created to reach the infected pulp, which is then carefully removed.
  4. Cleaning and Disinfection: The root canal is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to eliminate bacteria and prevent reinfection.
  5. Sealing and Restoration: The canals are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha and sealed to prevent bacteria from re-entering. A dental crown may be placed to restore the tooth’s strength and function.
